EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT AT CAFÉ LAGUNA IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY

I first read about Café Laguna a few years back. Whenever I visited Cebu, either for event coverage or magazine writing commitments, I often thought of checking out Café Laguna. Unfortunately, when I finally got time to go, their branch was already closed for the night. So when I heard that Café Laguna was also established in Cagayan de Oro City (a franchise), a visit was on top of my list during my CDO City trip.

Café Laguna prides of traditional Filipino cuisine and is very much reflected in their menu categories from Merienda (snacks), Pampagana (appetizers), Ensalada (salad), Sabaw na May Laman (soup with meat), Pagkaing Dagat (seafood), Gulay (vegetables), Kanin (rice), and Panghimagas (dessert).

Cafe Laguna's Kare-Kare
At lunch with my beau, we decided to order two viands, each one are our favorites. He preferred Kare-Kare with Bagoong (Php240) under the Karneng Baka section. A white ceramic bowl with piping hot Kare-kare seemed sufficient for the two of us since I also ordered Alimasag Chili Sauce (Php235) with only two pieces of medium-sized crabs sliced into two with four orders of plain rice at Php30 each.

Without drinks, the bill was Php595 and the meal was satisfactory. The Kare-kare was savory but the meat and vegetables were only meant for one person, although the sauce was abundant. As for the crabs, it was not big as I would have imagined. The crabs they offered was akin in size to Kuya Ed’s Buffet (in Davao City) and the latter offered unlimited crabs. Had the crabs they served were huge even for just one piece, it would have made a lot of difference. Better that is.

Though it was not as awesome as I had expected, not to mention the slow service despite the fact that there were only two tables occupied including ours, I would still give Café Laguna another shot. But this time, I have to go to their original location in Cebu City. Oh well, until then.
