EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT UNFOLDS SECRET RECIPE CAKES CAFE RESTAURANT

What's the secret at Secret Recipe Cakes Cafe Restaurant? Magic that is! They are offering ten magic dishes which you can savor and pair with their three Value Add-Ons. Get an additional order of Iced Tea or coffee at 50% off, start your meal with a hot soup at 47% off or end your delightful meal with a slice of any of their cream cake at 26% off.

Secret Recipe Magic 10 Dishes

The Magic Ten Dishes are Nasi Nemak, Mee Goreng, Tom Yum Kung, Singapore Laksa, Irish Lamb Shank, Curry Seafood Laksa, Penang Fried Kuey Teow, Pan-Grilled Dory in Lobster Sauce, Caribbean Style Catch of the Day and Roasted Chicken with Turmeric Sauce.

Roasted Chicken with Turmeric Sauce at Secret Recipe

The chicken-lover in me was screaming for the Roasted Chicken with Turmeric Sauce (Php280). In just a few minutes, their pleasant attendant served my plate with aromatic roasted chicken topped with the yellow-colored sauce spiced with some fresh herbs. The strong and spicy flavored sauce was complemented by steamed vegetables and not-too-salty fries. The chicken was well-roasted retaining its juicy and tender meat that's perfect in every munch. Without the need for rice, the dish was quite filling with the generous portion of the styled-cut potato fries.

Chocolate Indulgence is a definite thumbs-up at Secret Recipe

As for dessert, constant readers of this site would know that I am a sucker for sweet endings (since July 2011 and every July from then on, I have a month-long feature of nothing but sweet sensations through Life is Sweet) I opted to try their Cream Cake - Chocolate Indulgence (Php70-after the 26% off). Secret Recipe Cakes Cafe Restaurant delivers one of the best tasting chocolate cakes. The Chocolate Indulgence was a decent slice of layers of chocolate goodness. Akin to a chocolate mousse, this beautiful slice is an alternating ensemble of chocolate cake, chocolate mousse and frothy cream then topped with a thick and gooey chocolate ganache. I was definitely in chocolate heaven.

EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT HEADS TO CHEF D' ANGELO's BUFFET

I always thought that buffets in Metro Manila are not as affordable as when I am in Cebu City or Davao City, but with Chef D' Angelo's buffet offerings, you can eat to your heart's content with Chef D' Angelo's Eat-All-You-Can : soup, salad, pasta and pizza.

With another manic Monday and to most people - with 8 to 5 jobs and a 15 & 30 payday, budget strings may sometimes limit our expenses when dining comes to mind - until the next paycheck when our pockets are all bulked up again. So I am sure that many would opt to have a packed tummy after every meal without going over budget.

With Chef D' Angelo Eat-All-You-Can on soup, salad, pasta and pizza, if you prefer these type of dishes, their buffet can actually be your salvation for a hungry tummy all for only Php150. You have to add Php50 for bottomless iced tea and another Php125 on top of your bill for eat-all-you-can chicken - all in one transaction (you cannot add the chicken-all-you-can after the transaction has been made).

I improvised Chef D Angelo's soup by adding croutons and black pepper, voila!

Their soup is a thin (read : too much water that you can hardly taste the soup's flavor) mushroom soup, and to make it appetizing for this photo, I opted to add croutons and a dash of black pepper. Nevertheless, it's still good to start your meal with piping hot soup especially during the rainy days.

Create your own salad at Chef D Angelo's buffet

Next, their salad - ice berg lettuce with choices of fresh diced tomatoes, strips of cucumber and carrots, black pitted olives and two choices of dressing - mayo garlic and mustard. For the lettuce, be careful when choosing you greens as an elder woman sharing my table had to pluck out two large green leaves with wilted sides. Even if I carefully chosen my greens, i still got some brown/wilted sides (see encircled part of photo). I just wish the kitchen staff took the effort of taking this out before serving. Good thing the combination of mayo-garlic and mustard dressing was not such a bad idea. Many preferred mayo-garlic over mustard but I think the combination with the sharp flavor of mustard actually compliments the other ingredients.

Chef D Angelo's pizza and pasta choices from the buffet

There are two choices of pasta, "creamy white" and "pomodoro" which were both disappointing. I always loved Chef D' Angelo's pasta particularly their Seafood Marinara but what do you expect with a buffet serving pasta - this would just be pure sauce and no other ingredients like meat or seafood. I dined at two different branches of Chef D' Angelo to test the diner's response, one at Alphaland in Magallanes and the other at SM MOA and at both areas, people where actually unsatisfied with their pasta dishes. As with any buffet offers, sharing and left-overs are not allowed but a group of diners who were seated in the next table at SM MOA could not finish the pomodoro pasta that they placed on their plates - four plates as I counted. They managed not to pay the penalty (no sharing, no left-over policy or you pay double) since their table was al fresco-style (outside the main establishment). At Alphaland I got to try their pomodoro pasta and I tried their creamy pasta at SM MOA and improvements with the taste should be done soon.

More servings of Chef D Angelo's pizzas

As for their pizza, this is were my salvation came along. Three variants were available and freshly baked pizza were constantly arriving before the serving plates emptied. Cheese, Hawaiian and Pepperoni are the three choices. I always loved Chef D' Angelo's pizza dough and every bite was wonderful. Except for one pepperoni pizza at their Alphaland branch - which they served with burnt pepperoni. The store manager could have stopped serving this as you would actually taste the burnt pepperoni which destroyed the whole pizza experience.

I hate lambasting restaurants as I know how difficult it is to operate and survive a reputable business in our country but I personally believe that promotions made especially by dining establishments are a way to attract more customers and not push them away to go to other restaurants. Chef D' Angelo has produced one of my all-time favorite pasta dishes and they should be remembered that way - with or without promos.

If you prefer quantity over quality, try Chef D' Angelo's Eat-All-You-Can promo, but if not, just order for their regular priced ala-carte items. I know I would!

I would still check out their deliriously delicious offerings (not from their buffet menu) and savor their goodness in every bite. As I always say, Live Well, Laugh Often, Eat To Your Heart's Content!

Hope you continue to check out Eat To Your Heart's Content for more deliriously delicious dining discoveries.

EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT VISITS LAGUNA'S PRIDE : ALING TALENG'S HALO-HALO

It was not a case of serendipity when I checked out one of Laguna's pride - Aling Taleng's Halo-Halo. When my friend and talented photographer Mike Caballes pitched the Laguna topic to our 7107 magazine editor-in-chief, and upon learning our route, I instantly insisted of visiting one dining area - Aling Taleng's Halo Halo.

Why wouldn't I insist when this is one of the oldest halo-halo serving establishments in the country today (originally established in 1933 by Editha dela Fuente). As I saw Aling Taleng's Halo-Halo signage, I was jumping for joy and my heart was pounding fast - alas! I was about to taste what they are made of.

Aling Taleng's Halo-Halo ingredients like no other!

Forget about a dozen or more sweetened ingredients, Aling Taleng's Halo-Halo offers only seven. Yes, seven ingredients but these will surely blow your mind away with every spoonful. These seven ingedients are ube halaya, kundol, monggo beans, white beans, macapuno, kaling-kaling (or kaong as alternate) and tubo ng niyog (sugarcane bits). Intrigued by the tubo ng niyog, when uncooked, this is a crunchy round produce - with a white to slightly yellowish hue. What they do is wash this, take off its brown "crown" and marinate in apog or lime then sweetened for about an hour. The result is a transparent fruit akin to a rambutan or lychee in color and texture. Each tall glass of halo-halo is topped with this tubo ng niyog when in season. We were lucky that at the time of our visit last July 2010 that all their ingredients were available, if not, leche flan may take place of this interesting ingredient.

Are you ready for Aling Taleng's Halo-Halo?!

All ingredients being home-made spells the difference in every tall glass served and I actually did not bother for additional sugar with this concoction. What's best is that it is only Php50. Pagsanjan's residents are lucky to have Aling Taleng's Halo-Halo with their every whim.

EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT DINES AT SOFITEL'S LE BAR

When you say luxury hotel, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila comes to mind and what better way to further pamper yourself is by tasting their sumptuous menu. Aside from their well-loved and well-crafted creations at Spiral, the metro's longest buffet, Sofitel's ala carte offerings at Le Bar are a must-try.

From appetizers to main entrees, I am definite, you will have difficulty choosing just one, as each item deserves to be savored in bite after bite. For sandwich lovers, try their Grilled Ham and Cheese Panini (Php280). This is no ordinary ham and cheese as the ham slices are honey-roasted and Le Bar uses one of my favorite Swiss cheeses - emmenthal. Ciabatta bread envelops this heavenly combination and served with a choice of taro chips or french fries.

Spanakopita at Sofitel's Le Bar

If you prefer to start with appetizers, sample their Spanakopita (Php420). A thin filo pastry, shaped in triangles, wraps the freshly minced spinach and feta cheese. It was delightfully delicious, light yet filling.

I hope you would check out their deliriously delicious offerings and savor their goodness in every bite. As I always say, Live Well, Laugh Often, Eat To Your Heart's Content!

EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT GOES ON A STEAK EATING SPREE AT 145 FAHRENHEIT PRIME STEAKS AND SEAFOOD

145 Fahrenheit Prime Steaks and Seafood's facade

What's good about 145 Fahrenheit? Nothing... but well - it's all in their name, prime steaks and seafood. So what makes a good steak? Two things, starting off with how the animal was raised resulting to a high grade marbling rating of the beef (of the fat content) and the way it was cooked.

145 Fahrenheit Prime Steaks and Seafood's prime cut steaks

For 145 Fahrenheit Prime Steaks and Seafood, choosing the highest possible marbling rating and perfecting the 145F of cooking their steaks are not only their priority, it's their religion. So all you get are well-chosen prime steak cuts that's cooked to perfection every time you dine.

Surf & Turf with Baby Lobsters at 145 Fahrenheit Prime Steaks and Seafood

When 145 Fahrenheit Prime Steaks and Seafood started a few years back, they offered prime steak orders which was good for three to four persons but in early 2010, they started offering Surf and Turf in three variants. Prime steaks with prawns, prime steaks with sole fillet and prime steaks with baby lobsters.

Surf & Turf with Sole Fillet

145 Fahrenheit Prime Steaks and Seafood's Surf and Turf comes as a complete meal. Each order is served with a succulent cut of grilled steak on a bed of flavorful mashed potatoes, sidings of sauteed diced vegetables of carrots, zucchini, bell peppers and corn kernels plus the length of the plates gets a dash of aromatic sauce that is great for dipping your steak before each bite. The fun part is every time you dine, you can try any of these three variants - Surf and Turf with Prawns, Surf and Turf with finely textured Sole Fillet, and Surf and Turf with Baby Lobsters. Now, isn't that worth a visit for a steak eating spree at the end of your horrendous busy work week?

145 Fahrenheit Prime Steaks and Seafood also boasts with an impressive open kitchen where you can actually watch your order being prepared ala-minute and salivate while you wait.

I hope you would check out their deliriously delicious offerings and savor their goodness in every bite. As I always say, Live Well, Laugh Often, Eat To Your Heart's Content!

EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT DIVINE INDULGENCE AT HAAGEN-DAZS ICE CREAM BUFFET

When ice cream indulgence comes to mind, I can only think of one thing - HAAGEN-DAZS ICE CREAM. Despite the mid-week rush with work, one of the best things to unwind is to chill and savor your meal - as for me, Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Buffet was my salvation.

Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Buffet anyone?

Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Buffet comes in two choices - Php499 with Eat-All-You-Can Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream and Php599 with Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Buffet and Eat-All-You-Can pastries. At a given time, you can choose from Haagen-Dazs' 16 divine flavors - Belgian Chocolate, Cappuccino Truffle, Cookies and Cream, Strawberry and Vanilla, to name a few.

The Mechanics for the Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Buffet and the Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream & Pastries Buffet is simple. First order, the attendant will tell you the store's flavor for the day for your first scoop (during my visit, they were offering Chocolate) and you get to choose for the next two scoops available from the 16 flavors. After your first serving, you get to order two or three scoops of your choice and the attendant will serve this on another bowl.

Haagen Dazs ice cream paired with this delectable triangle-shaped waffles

For the pastries, you can order one pastry at a time, but for waffles which is prepared for about eight minutes, you can have this ordered in advance. Two triangle-shaped waffles come with a miniature white ceramic filled with maple syrup. Choose your pastries wisely, as you would not want to over stuff yourself with just pastries and not enjoy your multiple scoops of Haagen-Dazs ice cream. Pastries available are brownies packed with macadamia nuts, waffles, crepe and cookies.

Crepe and Haagen Dazs ice cream,  how can you not go nuts?!

For my first serving, I opted for a scoop of Macadamia Nut and Chocolate Truffle plus the store's choice of Chocolate on a bed of freshly cooked crepe. Second serving was a scoop of Strawberry Cheesecake and Coffee. Third serving was Strawberry and a scoop of Chocolate Midnight Cookies. Aside from combining different-colored ice cream flavors for photo-op purposes, I made it a point to get contrasting flavors if possible and I think I made the right combinations. Macadamia Nut and Chocolate Truffle - the roasted macadamia added texture in contrast with the velvety smooth chocolate truffle.

Complementing flavors - Strawberry Cheesecake and Coffee

Strawberry Cheesecake and Coffee - the strawberry cheesecake in itself was complex with the freshness of the strawberries, the luscious cheesecake and graham bits so when I added a scoop of Coffee the aroma was simply addicting and the taste lingers in my mouth.

Haagen Dazs' Strawberry and Chocolate Midnight Cookies

Strawberry and Chocolate Midnight Cookies - the strawberries are intensified but never overpowering the richness of the cream while the second scoop triples the chocolate sensation with milk chocolate ice cream, mouthwatering chocolate sauce and dark chocolate cookies.

Raspberry Sorbet and Green Tea, two interesting Haagen Dazs ice cream flavors

At this point, I was satiated with all things chocolate despite the combinations mentioned and to cap this delightful Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Buffet, I had to cleanse my palate. Raspberry Sorbet and Green Tea. I am not a green tea fan and there was an aftertaste with every spoonful. But the raspberry made this tandem quite a pair. Not only aesthetically, slightly sweet but it was refreshingly good.

What's best with this Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Buffet and Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream & Pastries Buffet? Unlike most buffets around the country which has a designated time, their offer lasts all-day, everyday. From the moment the store opens until it closes - referring only to one store, that is at SM Megamall's Atrium. To date, the Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Buffet and Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream & Pastries Buffet does not have any expiry date. Nevertheless, I am planning to return.

Update : By the end of August 2012, Haagen Dazs Ice Cream ceased its Philippine operations. Read more about it in this article "Haagen Dazs Bids Farewell."

I hope you would check out their deliriously delicious offerings and savor their goodness in every bite. As I always say, Live Well, Laugh Often, Eat To Your Heart's Content!
